Villanova Wraps Up Nonconference Play With Win Over FDU

Villanova Men’s Basketball won their fourth game in a row on Wednesday, Dec 11, concluding their nonconference schedule by taking down Fairleigh Dickinson 86-72 at home.
Eric Dixon scored 27 points, as did Knights’ guard Terrance Brown, while Jhamir Brickus dished out 10 assists in a 10 point double-double.
Villanova (7-4) took time to establish a healthy lead over the Knights, even trailing 24-23 with a little more than eight minutes to play in the first half. Senior shooting guard Wooga Poplar helped them pull away from there, claiming the lead with a jumper before nailing a pair of three-pointers. His personal 10-2 run gave the Wildcats a lead they never relinquished, and put him well on the way to a 19 point evening.
Brown did his best to keep the Knights in the game — although most of his points came in the second half with Villanova a comfortable distance in front — making 55.5 percent of his shots. The rest of the Knights, meanwhile, converted just 37.4 percent of the time, although 19 Fairleigh Dickinson free throw attempts (and 16 makes) also helped them keep things respectable.
Much like their Dec. 7 win over Temple, the Wildcats got aggressive with their shot selection, taking 24 of their 54 shots from beyond the arc. They made just seven of them, however, compared to a phenomenal 23-of-30 clip from two-point range.
As with much of their nonconference slate this year, the Wildcats looked far from perfect, but they did enough to come away with the win. Now it’s on to Big East play, which Villanova will commence at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17 when they host Seton Hall.
