Villanova Transfers: ‘Cats Linked to Monmouth Wing Rivera-Torres

Villanova Men’s Basketball needs to fill at least ten spots on their roster heading into the 2026-27 season, and Monmouth wing Jason Rivera-Torres is one player who’s on their radar, per a tweet from The Portal Report.
Rivera-Torres is a rising senior who averaged 15.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game for the Hawks during the 2025-26 season. He stands 6-foot-7, has a seven foot wingspan and weighs 195 pounds: while he isn’t particularly stout, he’s a strong defender who averaged 1.1 blocks and 2.1 steals per game with Monmouth, winning All-CAA Second Team and Defensive Team honors.
Rivera-Torres spent the first two seasons of his career at Vanderbilt and San Francisco, respectively, earning time as a reserve at both stops — he even started two games for the Commodores as a true freshman — before breaking out as Monmouth. As such, he understands the rigors of power conference basketball. While he’ll still face the learning curve of any player jumping to the upper echelons of the sport, Rivera-Torres could make a smoother transition than transfers with a similar profile do.
Listed at guard with Vanderbilt and forward with Monmouth, Rivera-Torres can do a little bit of everything. A streaky shooter, he attempted 37.9 percent of his shots from three last season and converted on 31.5 percent of those attempts, making 45.5 percent of shots from two-point range. Rivera-Torres is earning interest from a series of major programs, including Seton Hall, UNC, UCLA, Kentucky and Alabama.
