Villanova Men’s Basketball trailed 66-57 with less than seven minutes to play in their Tuesday, Feb. 10 home win over Marquette.

The Wildcats (19-5, 10-3 Big East) managed to survive a Quadrant 3 upset thanks to junior guard Tyler Perkins (22 points), who made five of nine three-point shots and came up with the game-sealing block; true freshman Acaden Lewis also stepped up late after a shaky start. Free throw shooting nearly sank Villanova, who converted on just 18 of 31 trips to the charity stripe, a number boosted significantly after they went a perfect 6-for-6 in the final three minutes.

For anyone who’s watched the Wildcats over the years, the struggles to make free throws leap off the page, and that fundamental aspect of their game could spell an early exit once the calendar turns to March. Nevertheless, a win is a win: here’s the reaction from fans and media after Villanova won their fourth game in a row. Come for the Tyler Perkins hype, stay for the angry Marquette fans.
