Villanova Baseball product Bobby Olsen signed a free agent deal with the St. Louis Cardinals after going unselected in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Olsen, a right-handed pitcher and graduate student, spent one season with the Wildcats after beginning his college career at Brown (2020-2023) and spending 2024 with Nebraska. He stands six feet tall and weighs 21o pounds, posting a 6.19 ERA across 56.2 innings pitched at Villanova. He also racked up 59 strikeouts.

In a sport like baseball where pitch selection and a team’s defensive performance can impact a player’s ERA significantly, teams will often select young pitchers based on projectability rather than statistical performance.

Olsen is the third Villanova Baseball player the Cardinals have brought into their system since 2021. They selected Gordon Graceffo in the fifth round of the 2021 draft before picking Chris Rotondo in the 19th round the following year.
