A-10 Men's Basketball
Could the A-10 Tournament, Liebovitz Set Up Shop in Philly?
The A-10 Men’s Basketball Tournament hasn’t stayed in the same place for consecutive seasons since 2015-16, the last of four straight years at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. That could change with longtime basketball executive Dan Leibovitz, who spent the past decade in administrative roles with the SEC and the Big East, set to become the A-10 commissioner on May 4, 2026.
Leibovitz, 52, was born in Philadelphia and attended Episcopal Academy in nearby Merion, later playing for the University of Pennsylvania and spending time on the coaching staff of both the Quakers and the Temple Owls. During his introductory press conference on Tuesday, March 24, Leibovitz outlined his vision for the conference. Discussing the conference tournament, Leibovitz said “it’s to our advantage to plant a flag somewhere and grow roots and make it a tradition… I want to find that for us.”
Leibovitz used examples like the Big East’s long-time relationship with Madison Square Garden. While the A-10 has bounced around every couple seasons since the turn of the century, it spent 11 of its first 26 seasons of life somewhere in the City of Brotherly Love. Philadelphia’s ties with the A-10 aren’t as strong as they once were, with Temple departing for the American in 2013, but the majority of the teams play on the Eastern Seaboard, including Saint Joseph’s and La Salle.
Taken in consideration with Leibovitz’s area ties, Philadelphia makes a natural fit, although Barclays Center could get the nod based on recent history.
